other projects
This is a page which details other elements of my practice and other projects I am involved in. As can be seen in the gallery below, I have a wide range of interests outside of painting such as taxidermy and bronze casting.
I am drawn to processes often classes as 'obsolete' or 'dying' in today's world- skills and techniques once common but now at risk of loss. That such skills are behind objects we still flock to in our museums is something I want to highlight.
I am fascinated by dioramas, particularly featuring taxidermy. There is something about the surreality of a completely separate world within the domestic space that fascinates me. These inform my paintings and drawings but are also stand alone objects in their own right.
I am also currently very interested in bronze age casting techniques, having always had an intense interest in this rather obscure period in Irish history. The process is an ancient one (apart from a cheeky propane-powered furnace) and it is something I do where the process is just as important as the finished work. I feel part of something ancient and venerated.
